Alexandra Owen

Printmaking

Alex Owen is the linocut printmaker behind MegaLilyDesign. Based at her studio in Hove, Alex specialises in creating hand printed linocuts inspired by nature and nurture. Her work ranges from small, open edition prints to larger scale limited edition pieces.

About

Alex’s nature and nurture inspired linocuts begin with her being drawn towards a particular plant or animal and allowing herself to connect with that subject in depth until an image emerges, often through repeated sketching and painting.

Recently Alex has explored plants that we think of as weeds in her limited edition print “The Vagabonds”. Feeling deeply inspired by the view that these plants can be seen as nature’s first aid, simply trying to heal the damage that we humans inflict on our planet.

Alex’s smaller, open edition prints, enable her to share some original pieces with a wider audience and make the work affordable. It is an integral part of her practice that everyone should be able to own an original hand printed piece of art and feel a connection with the artist.

All Alex’s prints are created from original drawings, carved in traditional grey lino and pressed using a combination of etching press and hand burnishing. All work is printed using archival quality oil based ink onto high quality, mainly Japanese, printmaking paper.
