Our annual event in Ditchling, provides a friendly, relaxed atmosphere in which visitors can purchase unique and beautiful work from the region’s finest craftspeople. The Sussex Guild is proud to follow Ditchling’s artistic tradition, well known for its past association with local artists of distinction.
This show is in two venues: Ditchling Village Hall and the beautiful and historic St Margaret’s Parish Church. Located between the two venues is the jewellery shop of Sussex Guild members, Pruden and Smith.
If you have never been to Ditchling before, you may be interested in some local facts… Ditchling is a medieval village with many beautiful timber-framed buildings, nestling just below the impressive Ditchling Beacon on the rolling South Downs. For new visitors to this village, the museum is of great interest. This is housed in the old church school and has a superb, permanent display relating to the artistic past of the village. There is a very long tradition of arts and crafts associated with Ditchling. This stems from the early 20th century when a number of notable artist/craftsmen were based in the area, including Edward Johnston, Ethel Mairet and the eminent Eric Gill.
At our Contemporary Craft Show there will be an exciting array of wood, glass, ceramics, jewellery, textiles and more. Come to meet the makers and perhaps buy or commission your own individual work of art.
The admission ticket affords entry and re-entry to each venue throughout the day. Excellent refreshments are available in the village. Free parking at the Village Hall and, subject to the weather having been dry, in Bollands Field, Keymer Road, Ditchling.
Nearby is Dolly’s Pantry, which, along with The Bull public house, provides excellent fare for visitors.

Parham House, rated as one of England’s top twenty houses, is set in an ancient deer park near Storrington, with breathtaking views towards the Sussex Downs. The foundation stone of this beautiful house was laid in 1577 by the two year old Thomas Palmer, and Parham has been a family home ever since. It is now occupied by its present owners Lady Emma and Mr James Barnard and their family – Lady Emma Barnard’s great-grandfather, the Hon Clive Pearson, bought Parham in 1922 from the 17th Lady Zouche and he and his wife opened the house to visitors in 1948.
The Elizabethan Great Hall contains portraits and furnishings dating from Tudor times and at the top of the house is the magnificent Long Gallery, the third largest in the country. Fresh flower arrangements, with blooms cut from Parham’s own gardens, adorn the rooms and those interested in needlework will find an outstanding collection of needlework and tapestry.
The romantic four-acre walled garden is a joy to behold with its spectacular herbaceous borders, ornamental vegetable garden, orchard and 1920′s Wendy House.
Adjoining the House is the area known as The Pleasure Grounds where, in a large marquee set amidst specimen trees, over forty members of the Sussex Guild will be exhibiting and selling their fine work. They are delighted to have been invited again to hold their summer show in such beautiful surroundings.
Lunches and teas are available in the 16th century Big Kitchen and there is a picnic area for those wishing to bring their own refreshments.
There is plenty of free parking and good wheelchair access to the Guild Exhibition and Gardens.
Entry to the gardens (including the Guild Show) is £7.00, concessions £6.50, children £3.50, family ticket £19.00, £2.00 extra to go in the house.

In late summer and autumn Pashley maintains its riot of colour mixed with the careful composed shape and form of the trees and shrubs.
