Glass

Ruth completed a professional qualification in Graphic design after completing a four-year course at Eastbourne College of Art and Technology becoming a member of the CSD (Chartered Society of Designers). She has been creating and making stained glass for over 20 years, working from her home studio in Burgess Hill she enjoys teaching a variety of one day workshops for beginners to students of varying abilities.

About

Ruth works in the traditional method of stained glass taking on a modern approach to the medieval craft. She is influenced by the Arts and Crafts and Art Deco style, elements of which are often included in her designs. There are certain elements that Ruth takes into consideration when she is making a stained-glass panel, for example the natural light, texture, and the choice of coloured glass.

Ruth likes to use different techniques such as glass painting, silver staining, sandblasting and fusing to enhance her designs. Her work is mainly commission-based and using her skills gained during my earlier career as a Graphic Designer she relishes the challenge of producing a bespoke panel for her clients by interpreting their thoughts and ideas. Ruth enjoys teaching and sharing her knowledge with her students who attend her one-day workshops. It’s wonderful seeing their delight when they produce a small panel for the first time that they get to take home with them.

Ruth also exhibits in craft shows and fairs throughout the year and loves interacting with the public discussing the different processes of her craft.
