About
Like his architectural heroes, Frank Lloyd Wright and Charles Rennie Mackintosh, as well as The Arts and Crafts Movement, Chris sought inspiration from the art & architecture of Japan. Following an interest in architecture and Buddhism, he travelled to the Far East and was struck by the beauty, highly skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail of the traditional temples and shrines he visited whilst in Japan. He says, ‘…to me these buildings are a great meeting of material and artisan, successfully balancing beauty and function, simplicity and intricacy.
Therein lies the essence of Chris’s work – beautifully proportioned pieces of fine furniture from carefully selected homegrown timbers, constructed using traditional joinery which he loves to express and finished by hand with natural oils and beeswax.
Chris has developed a distinctive collection of work from jewellery boxes to chests of drawers as well as a range of must have homewares.
Contact Chris by phone or email to discuss commissioning a bespoke piece of furniture for your home or office or visit him at various Sussex Guild events.
