Abi creates kiln-formed and flameworked glass panels from her home based studio in Cuckfield, West Sussex. Her glass work is primarily self taught.
Abi is interested in how the unique properties of glass can be used to contribute to the depiction of the natural landscape. Her work is a study in its ability to transmit and reflect light, to vary its opalescence and translucency and to be layered and sculpted with heat. With an interest in climbing and mountaineering, she is drawn to sweeping, dramatic and brooding vistas and their mutability in different atmospheric and lighting conditions.
Her one-off landscape ‘paintings’ and series of stylised decorative panels are made from coloured glass sheet, granules, powders and flameworked elements. Black enamel accents and metal inclusions are used where beneficial. The pieces are fired multiple times in a kiln in order to build depth, colour and texture.
Abi’s work can be purchased at upcoming events listed on www.abistreet.com and work in progress can be followed on Facebook and Instagram. Home studio visits may be possible by arrangement. Consideration is given to commission requests.’
