Metal

Fleur completed her M.A. at The Royal College of Art, London, in 1996 and works from a studio in W. Sussex.  She belongs to The Sussex Guild and The Surrey Guild and is a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Pewterers.

Her organic, fluid designs range from one-off items to tableware and from cheese knives and serviette rings to desk clocks and vases.  All her designs are highly individual in style, and some of them use other materials in conjunction with pewter such as wood or slate. Recently she has also begun glassblowing, combining another element with her pewtersmithing. The naturally flowing quality of glass compliments the metal and also incorporates colour into her work.

She has won numerous awards – from the International Design Network Federation (IDNF), New York, and from The Worshipful Company of Pewterers, among others – and her commissions have included a pewter and glass bowl presented to the Countess of Wessex at the Worshipful Company of Pewterers and commemorative gifts for the Rugby Football Union (RFU). In 2010 her book Pewter Design and Techniques was published by The Crowood Press.

Importantly, Fleur uses only lead-free pewter in her work, with the result that pieces stay shiny and do not go grey with time as old pewter does.
